International Women's Day 2017

The Caribbean Research Empowerment Network and The University of the West Indies Family Development Centre join with the global community today in observing International Women's Day. It is a time for us to reflect on the progress made in our Caribbean communities, to continue to work towards finding solutions and to celebrate the perseverance and courage of women regionally and internationally.

The 2017 theme as set by the United Nations is: Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030
"The idea of this theme is to consider how to accelerate the 2030 Agenda, building momentum for the effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal number 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; and number 4: Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning. The theme will also focus on new commitments under UN Women’s Step It Up initiative, and other existing commitments on gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s human rights." CREN members, what are you thoughts on this year's theme? With the changing world of work, what are the implications for Caribbean women? Who are some of the amazing women who inspire you? Share your stories in the comments below! We look forward to reading your stories as we celebrate the achievements, determination and courage of women around the world.
