Patricia M. Bissessar
Former Primary School Principal
Ms. Patricia Mara Bissessar is the recently retired principal of the Santa Flora Government Primary School located in Trinidad and Tobago. As an educator, she holds over forty-three (43) years of experience in the field. She has given service at every level of education in her country from the Early Childhood level to Tertiary, where she served as a part-time lecturer at the School of Education, University of the West Indies. She has also served as Teacher Development Specialist/Consultant in Early Childhood Care and Education at the Ministry of Education.
Ms. Bissessar’s qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Educational Administration (Hons.) and a certificate in Early Childhood Care from the University of the West Indies, as well as certificates from the Organization of the American States in Basic Quality Primary Education and Evaluation of Educational Policies and Programs.
She has been instrumental in the development of a Draft Policy Framework Document for Teacher Education and Development in Trinidad and Tobago (2004 to 2005) as well as the Draft Early Childhood Care and Education Curriculum Guide which is still being used by all ECCE practitioners in Trinidad and Tobago
Ms. Bissessar’s foremost passion is in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education. Her research interest includes making Seamless Education (particularly the transition of children from the pre-school setting to primary level) a reality within the Caribbean region.
